What is the rule?
According to the ICC’s general follow-on rule of playing conditions 14.1.1, the first-time batting team can call on the opposing team to bat again after taking a 200-run lead. 14.1.2 As per the rules, if a game is played for 3 or 4 days, a lead of 150 runs, 100 runs in 2 days match and 75 runs in one day match is required to follow on.
If the game does not take place on the first and second day, the rule will be determined by the number of remaining days in the game (including the prescribed reserve day) as per rule 14.1 The day the test first starts will be considered a full day. The ICC has made it clear that the entire day will be considered as soon as the first over starts, no matter if the Test starts at any time on that day.
