BJP spokesperson Rajni Sethi told reporters, “The Sakhi scheme, launched with the aim of supporting women who are victims of violence in private and public places, has remained only on paper. The women of the union territory have no idea about this. “
Sethi, former president of the Mahila Morcha of the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, said that the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started this scheme a few years ago, but due to lack of awareness campaign and lax attitude of the concerned department implementing it. Because of this still no one knows about this scheme.
The BJP leader said that the cases of domestic violence against women have increased significantly during the lockdown. “An awareness campaign should be started with the active participation of the concerned department so that needy women can save their lives by using this scheme,” he said. The BJP leader also demanded the release of helpline numbers under the scheme. “Most cases of domestic violence go unreported due to lack of knowledge about government schemes,” he said.
