Stalin announces compensation to the family of pregnant woman who lost her life in ambulance accident

Chennai, Jun 10 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of a pregnant woman who lost her life in an ambulance accident. An ambulance carrying the woman collided with a tree on the roadside in Kallakurichi district on Thursday.

The Chief Minister also announced a relief amount of Rs.3 lakh each to the families of two relatives of the 23-year-old woman who lost her life in this accident.

The accident happened when a pregnant woman from Sorapattu, Jayalakshmi, was being taken in an ambulance from Pudupattu Primary Health Center to Government General Hospital in Kallakurichi. Jayalakshmi was accompanied by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law in the ambulance.

Police said one of the tires of the ambulance burst while on its way to the hospital in the early hours of Thursday and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to hit a tree. Jayalakshmi died on the way to the hospital. She was nine months pregnant.

Expressing grief over the death of Jayalakshmi and her two relatives in the accident, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of Jayalakshmi and Rs 3 lakh each to the families of her two relatives.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Stalin said that he has directed the officials to ensure that the families of the deceased get full benefits of insurance policies.
