Ahmedabad, Jun 8 (PTI) 318 people who were removed from a slum colony located here for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project have moved the Gujarat High Court for rehabilitation.

A division bench of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Biren Vaishnav heard the petition of the displaced on Monday. The bench directed to give advance copies of the petition to Western Railway, National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The next hearing of the case will take place on Thursday.

In the petition filed by the workers’ organization ‘Bandkam Mazdoor Sangathan’, the people living in the JP Ni Chali slum of Sabarmati area have said that they have been living in that area for 30 years and were evicted from there without any rehabilitation plan. Gone.

According to the petition, the National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation had given an oral assurance of rehabilitation but the railway administration had given a notice to the slum dwellers to vacate on February 22, 2021.

It has also been said in the petition that despite the representation before the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Western Railway, the railway administration started demolishing the houses of the residents on March 15. The petition has requested that the slum dwellers be rehabilitated at the earliest.
