In his address to the nation on Monday PM Narendra Modi announced that all people above the age of 18 years would be given free corona vaccine. Soon after this announcement, while Congress attacked Modi, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh thanked the PM. The Congress alleged that the Center has taken this decision after being pulled up in the Supreme Court.
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi had written to the government asking them to provide free vaccine to all citizens. But the government did not listen to our demand.
Surjewala further said, ‘But when the central government was put in the dock in the Supreme Court and in many courts of the country, today the government has partially obeyed the Congress.’
But on one hand, while the Congress appeared to be an attacker on the central government, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh took a completely different stand. He tweeted, ‘I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for accepting our demand that the Center should arrange and distribute the vaccine to all age groups. I had written twice to PM and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan ji on this issue. Now in the coming two weeks, the central and state governments will work according to the new guidelines.
