People banned from gathering at lakes, waterfalls in Thane

Thane, Jun 8 (PTI) The Thane district administration in Maharashtra has banned the gathering of people near waterfalls, lakes and dams in view of the onset of monsoon in the region.

District Collector Rajesh Narvekar has issued an order to prevent accidents on water bodies in the area, an official said. He said that the order lists some dangerous places in the district and people have been asked not to visit these places during monsoon.

This order has been issued under Section 144 of CrPC, Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act.

The official said that the gathering of people has been banned at Yeyur, Kalwa, Mumbra, Retibandar, Gaimukh and Uttan beaches in Thane taluka.

In a related development, the Thane Municipal Corporation has constituted a ward committee for monsoon related accidents.

Thane Zilla Parishad CEO Dr Bhausaheb Dangde has ordered all taluka level officers of the district to remain alert in the event of heavy rain, which is expected in the next few days.
