Patna News: Tension increased due to shortage of medicines, delay in surgery amid rising cases of black fungus

The pace of corona infection in Bihar is continuously weakening. On Monday, 762 new patients appeared. With this, the number of positive patients has reached 8,230. However, the increasing cases of black fungus have increased the tension of the government. More than 12 new cases of black fungus were reported in Patna on Monday as well. Meanwhile, the shortage of medicines related to this in hospitals is directly affecting the treatment. Patients are getting delayed in surgery.

Lack of necessary amphotericin-B injection in black fungus
Liposomal Amphotericin-B, the primary medicine used to treat Black fungus and prevent it from spreading to other organs, is not available in Patna hospitals. This is the situation for the last few weeks, in such a situation, doctors are continuously postponing the surgery of the patients concerned. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Nodal Officer, Kovid Department at AIIMS Patna said that as soon as Amphotericin-B injection comes in stock, the treatment of mucormycosis (black fungus) patients will start immediately.

Trouble in treatment, postponing surgery
Dr Sanjeev said that however, we can operate 10 patients in a day. But we are doing only four or five surgeries because of the acute shortage of injections. Right now we are giving only medicines to the patients to postpone the surgery. So far 120 black fungus patients have been admitted in AIIMS Patna.

110 Cases Of Black Fungus In Patna IGIMS
In the capital another major hospital Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), the number of such patients has increased to 110. Of the 23 black fungus patients admitted to Paras Hospital, 12 have died so far. The regional director of the hospital, Dr Talat Halim, said that we get anti-fungal injections only after sending the names of the patients to the government. However, we faced its shortfall on Monday.

The death toll from the infection has now reached 5,424 in the state.
