Our institutions have stopped paying attention to human rights violations: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Jun 7 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said India’s institutions have stopped paying attention to human rights violations, so the United Nations has to “intervene”. Will have to do

Mehbooba said everyone who raises their voice against the “wrong” steps of the Indian government is branded a “Pakistani agent”. The former chief minister tweeted, “Everyone who raises their voice against the ruthless steps of the Government of India is easily branded as a Pakistani agent. It is a matter of regret that our own institutions have ceased to pay attention to such open violations of human rights and in such a situation the United Nations should intervene.

Mehbooba made this tweet in the context of the filing of charge sheet against PDP leader Waheed Para in the case related to the alleged links between political leaders and terrorist groups. The charge sheet states that mercury is important for terrorist groups based in Pakistan.

Some UN reporters have raised the issue of Para’s arrest by the National Investigation Agency. India does not recognize the role of any third party in its internal affairs.
