One arrested for extorting money from people by creating fake profile on dating app

Nagpur, June 10 (PTI) A 39-year-old man has been arrested from Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. He is accused of blackmailing people by creating fake profiles on a dating app and extorting money from them.

Police Inspector (Cyber ​​Crime) Gaurav Gaonde said on Thursday that Pradeep Khevle, a resident of Gadchiroli’s Armodi, allegedly created a fake profile on social media in the name of the woman and blackmailed the men to extort money from them. He was arrested on Tuesday.

The officer said that the accused created a fake email ID and created a fake account on a dating app where he targeted men. He told that Khevle used to get the personal videos of the victims and then blackmailed them from these videos and extorted money from them.

The officer said that in one such case, a victim first gave him Rs 30,000 but later when he asked for Rs 50,000, the victim approached the police. He said the police were probing the possibility that the accused had harassed 30-35 men.
