Nine persons arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore in Chatra

Chatra, Jun 11 (PTI) In Jharkhand, Chatra police on Friday raided here and arrested nine smugglers with brown sugar. The value of the seized brown sugar in the international market is about one crore rupees.

Superintendent of Police Rishab Jha said that on the basis of secret information received, Chatra police arrested a total of 9 persons from different areas of the district in a special operation that lasted for 24 hours. He said that a self-styled leader of Hindu Bir Dal was among the arrested persons.

He said that 7 lakh seventy four thousand eight hundred rupees in cash and 296 grams of brown sugar worth about one crore rupees were recovered from the smugglers. He said that an XUV car and a bike were also recovered from these smugglers.

Giving information to this effect in a press conference held at Sadar police station Chatra, SP Rishab Jha said that the value of recovered brown sugar is Rs 1 crore in the international market. He said that the arrested smugglers have been sent to jail after conducting a Kovid-19 investigation.
