Maharashtra: Two revenue officials arrested for taking bribe

Thane, Jun 10 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two revenue officials from neighboring Raigad district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. ACB officials said that the accused had demanded bribe from a person in the name of updating his land purchase deal in official records.

The man along with one of his accomplices had bought a plot in 2019 at Mangaon in Raigad district of Maharashtra.

In a release, the ACB said that when the complainant reached the land revenue department to document the purchase, a Talathi and a jurisdictional officer allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from him for recording his name in the revenue records.

This person then reached the ACB who laid a trap and on the behest of the jurisdictional reached there, Talathi was arrested on Wednesday after taking a bribe from the complainant.

The ACB later also arrested the jurisdictional officer.

A case was registered against both the accused under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
