Lockdown extended till June 21 in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district

Shillong, Jun 11 (PTI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday announced extension of the lockdown for another week in East Khasi Hills district in view of rising cases of COVID-19 in the region. The lockdown will now remain in force in the district till June 21.

An official of the Health Department said that this decision was taken because the rate of corona virus infection in the district remains more than 10 percent. “The state government has decided to extend the lockdown in East Khasi Hills for one more week,” Sangma said in a video message.

The Deputy Commissioners of other districts have been empowered to decide on the relaxation of the existing COVID restrictions. Sangma said on Twitter that some relaxations would be given as deemed fit by the Deputy Commissioners.

The total number of cases reached 41,100 after 514 new cases of corona virus infection were reported in Meghalaya on Friday. After the death of 10 more patients due to this epidemic in the state, the death toll has increased to 714.
