Leopard took away five-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir, remains of dead body found in forest

Srinagar, Jun 6 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was taken away by a leopard from a house on the outskirts of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, following which the remains of her body were recovered from a nearby nursery the next day.

After this incident, there is an atmosphere of sorrow in the girl’s family. Elder brother Ali’s seventh birthday was being celebrated on June 3 at Ada Mir’s house at Om Pura in central Budgam district. During this, when Ada, dressed as a ‘Barbie doll’, came to the verandah of her house, the leopard took her away.

Ada’s maternal uncle Ejaz Ahmed said, “Ada had returned from her maternal grandmother’s house to celebrate her brother’s birthday. She got ready and went to call her grandfather sitting in the verandah to cut her brother’s cake. That’s when this incident happened. ”

After this incident, there was silence in the house and Ada’s family, neighbors and forest officials went out in search of her. During this they found some blood stains and the girl’s doll. The next day the remains of the girl’s body were found in a nearby forest. The last rites of the girl were performed on Saturday. People are giving their reactions to this incident through Twitter.

The girl’s parents are in shock after this incident. Her grandmother also passed away earlier this year.

Regional Conservator of Wildlife (Kashmir) Rashid Naqash condoled the incident but said his department should not be held responsible for it.

“We have taken up the issue of presence of wild animals with the forest department several times during the four years after we spotted the leopard for the first time there,” Nakash told PTI.

He said that after spotting the leopard, the department discharged its duty in a professional manner.
