Spread over an area of 731.88 hectares, the zoo- Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has four separate units- Zoo, Safari, Butterfly Park and Rescue Centre.
BBP is an autonomous organization run solely by revenue from ticket sales. It has also adopted some small zoos in Karnataka.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Bengaluru and Executive Director in-charge of BBP R Gokul said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a major disaster on the zoo, where there has been a huge drop in visitors, affecting the zoo’s revenue.”
Despite this, the zoo is taking care of 2,388 animals of 102 different species, he said.
“Therefore, we request the citizens and organizations adopting the animal to partially contribute towards the cost of its food and veterinary care,” Gokul said.
BBP is also providing an opportunity to name young animals.
