JDU reiterates demand for special status to Bihar after NITI Aayog report

Patna, Jun 7 (PTI) JD(U) has once again reiterated its old demand for special status to the state after Bihar was placed at the bottom in a recent NITI Aayog report. At the same time, the report has also given an opportunity to the opposition to target the state government.

NITI Aayog last week placed states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh at the top in its latest Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index, while Bihar remained at the bottom of the report.

Regarding this report, Upendra Kushwaha, the national president of the parliamentary board of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party JDU, tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “Lack of natural resources after the bifurcation of Bihar-Jharkhand and natural calamities on the people of Bihar.” Despite the constant sting of BJP, the NDA government under the leadership of Nitish Kumar is engaged in giving pace of development in Bihar with its efficient management.

He further said, “But at the present rate it is not possible to match with other states. The recent report of NITI Aayog is proof of this. Therefore, it is a humble request to consider the long pending demand of JDU to give special status to Bihar and give justice to the people of Bihar.

JDU’s national principal general secretary and chief spokesperson KC Tyagi asserted, “Special status to Bihar has been our long-standing demand. The NITI Aayog report is not a reflection of Nitish Kumar’s performance. Rather it confirms our stand that injustice has been done to Bihar and it should get its due.

Meanwhile, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is leading Bihar’s opposition grand alliance, tweeted, “It is the result of 16 years of Nitish-BJP’s relentless efforts and negative politics that Bihar is from bottom to top. Prejudiced creatures who cry for the so-called jungle raj are now hidden in bills locked on their tongues. Bihar may be annihilated, but those people do not accept socio-economic justice.

Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Lalu’s younger son and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, tweeted, “Due to Nitish Kumar ji’s ruling short-sighted policies, wrong decisions and incompetent leadership, Bihar for the third year in a row has shown poor performance in the NITI Aayog report. with the lowest rank. This is the essence, truth and real face of BJP-Nitish with evidence of 16 years of paper development.

He further sarcastically said, “Kerala tops the ranking of NITI Aayog where BJP got 0 seats, Bihar is lagging where it got 39 seats out of 40.”

RJD’s ally Congress and other Left parties involved in Bihar’s opposition grand alliance also issued statements alleging that the NITI Aayog report was proof that Nitish Kumar’s claims of “good governance” were hollow.
