Jammu and Kashmir administration started air transportation for perishable fruits and vegetables

Srinagar, Jun 8 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday started air services to transport perishable horticultural produce like cherries from the union territory to markets like Delhi and Mumbai.

An official spokesperson said here that the Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Horticulture Departments, Naveen Kumar Choudhary flagged off the vehicles carrying cherries from various vendors of the Kashmir Valley and later the fruit was taken by planes from Srinagar airport to Delhi and Delhi. Will be taken to Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary said that this is a historic event for the horticulture sector of Jammu and Kashmir and a great start for the marketing of fruits and vegetables of this union territory.

“About five tonnes of perishable fruit produce will be airlifted to various cities like Mumbai and Delhi today and will reach there in just a few hours by plane,” he said. ”

Chowdhary said that this will strengthen the fruit growers of Jammu and Kashmir and their income will increase and the rural economy will be strengthened.
