The selection committee has announced a 20-member squad for the India vs Sri Lanka tour. The team does not include two players who have won domestic competitions and the IPL.
Mumbai, June 11 : Team India has been announced for the tour of Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, Team India will tour Sri Lanka next month. The selection committee has announced a team of 20 members for this tour. Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the vice-captain. Five net bowlers have also been included in the squad.
Shreyas Iyer has not been considered for the tour of Sri Lanka as he is not fit yet. Jaydev Unadkat and Rahul Tewatia have not been selected in the squad. India has also sent a 20-member squad for the tour of England. This means that Unadkat and Tevatia are not among the top 40 players in the country.
Unadkatla has no chance
Jaydev Unadkat made his Test debut in 2010 against South Africa. He has represented Team India in seven ODIs and 10 T20I matches. He has not been included in Team India since 2018. Unadkat has a tremendous record in first class and T20 cricket.
He has taken 327 wickets in 89 first-class matches and 182 wickets in 150 T20 matches. He had taken 67 wickets in the 2019-20 Ranji season. He was the sculptor of Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy. Members of the National Selection Committee have expressed confidence in Chetan Sakaria to replace Unadkat.
Tevatia was included three months ago
In IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Rahul Tewatia impressed everyone with his strong performance. Tevatia was included in Team India for the T20 series against England in March this year. He never got a chance at that time. His performance in this IPL season since then has been mediocre. In the first seven matches, Tevatia had managed to take only 2 wickets. The blow of this mediocre performance has fallen on Tevatia.
