Hearing on suspension of Jaipur mayor adjourned till June 14

Jaipur, Jun 11 (PTI) The Rajasthan High Court adjourned till June 14 the hearing on a petition filed by Jaipur Municipal Corporation mayor Soumya Gurjar for suspension.

The Advocate General, appearing for the state government, sought time to file a reply in the matter, after which the single bench of the High Court adjourned the hearing.

Gurjar has challenged his suspension and the constitutional validity of Section 39 of the Municipalities Act, which empowers the state government to suspend the mayor.

The Rajasthan government had suspended the mayor and three councilors on June 6 for alleged misbehavior with the commissioner of the local body.
