Gujarat observes state mourning in honor of former Mauritius president

Ahmedabad, Jun 5 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Saturday observed state mourning in honor of former Mauritius President Aniruddha Jugnauth. He died on Thursday. In a statement, the government said that a day of mourning has been announced across the country in honor of Padma Vibhushan awardee Jagannath ji. There is also one day state mourning in Gujarat. The national flag remained at half-mast during the day and no official entertainment program was organized during this period. On June 4, the central government observed a day of mourning across the country in his honor.

Ahmedabad, Jun 5 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Saturday observed state mourning in honor of former Mauritius President Aniruddha Jugnauth. He died on Thursday.

In a statement, the government said that a day of mourning has been announced across the country in honor of Padma Vibhushan awardee Jagannath ji. There is also one day state mourning in Gujarat. The national flag remained at half-mast during the day and no official entertainment program was organized during this period.

On June 4, the central government had decided to observe a day of mourning across the country on Saturday in his honor.

Jugnauth was twice the President of Mauritius and six times the Prime Minister. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour, in 2020.

He was the President of Mauritius from 2003 to 2012 and was elected Prime Minister six times from 1982 to 2017.
