French army kills jihadist suspected of killing journalists

Paris, Jun 11 (AP) An al-Qaeda-linked jihadist, who allegedly helped plan the kidnapping and murder of two French journalists in 2013, was killed in a French military attack in Mali. French Defense Minister Florence Parly gave this information on Friday.

Parly said in a statement that three other extremists were also killed during the weekend’s counter-terrorist operation around Agwelhok in northern Mali.

The operation was carried out by targeting a group that was suspiciously planning to target UN forces in the area. One of the slain jihadists has been identified as Bae Eg Babako. He is believed to be involved in the kidnapping and murder of Radio France International journalists Gislain Dupont and Claude Verlon in November 2013.
