Four policemen suspended for extorting one lakh rupees from shopkeeper

Nagpur, Jun 8 (PTI) Four policemen, including a sub-inspector posted at Yashodhara Nagar police station here, were suspended on Tuesday for allegedly thrashing the owner of a ration shop and extorting Rs one lakh from him. An official gave this information.

The complainant has a shop in Mankapur area and on May 28, he was allegedly going to sell some grains from his shop in the market when his vehicle was stopped by the police. The policemen allegedly thrashed the driver and called the shopkeeper to the police station.

According to the complainant, the shopkeeper was also allegedly beaten up at the police station and Rs 2 lakh was demanded to settle the matter. According to the shopkeeper, he paid Rs 1 lakh after which his vehicle was released.

Following the complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Nilotpal conducted a preliminary inquiry and submitted the report to the city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar last week. The Deputy Commissioner of Police has suspended four policemen and further investigation is on, the official said.
