Four Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jun 7 (PTI) Four Naxalites, including a rewarded Naxal, surrendered before the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-affected Dantewada district.

Police officials of Dantewada district said here on Monday that militia commander Botti alias Bhima Vetty (29), militia deputy commander Dhurva Kunjam (28), mass militia members Budhram alias Guddu Tamo (23) and Somadu Tamo (27) attacked Kirandul police station in the district. I surrendered to the security forces. Naxalite boat had a reward of one lakh rupees.

Police officials said that the Naxalites working under Malangir Area Committee of Darbha Division of Maoists, fed up with the hollow ideology of the Maoist organization and influenced by the Lone Verratu (Come Back Home) campaign, decided to surrender.

He said that since the last 10 months, ‘Lone Varratu’ campaign is being run in various villages of Dantewada district for the return home of people active in Naxal organizations. Under this campaign, by pasting the names of active Maoists of the concerned area in the police stations/camps and gram panchayats, requesting them to surrender.

A total of 363 Naxalites, including 96 rewarded Naxalites, have surrendered before the security forces under the ‘Lone Verratu’ campaign, police officials said.
