Forest department rescues injured tigress in Bilaspur, treatment continues

Bilaspur, Jun 8 (PTI) A team of forest department has saved the life of an injured tigress in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve area located in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh. The tigress is being treated.

Forest department officials said that the tigress has a wound mark on its back. He is being treated at Kanan Pendari Zoo near Bilaspur.

Officials said that no such information has been received so far which can confirm that the tigress was hurt by poachers.

Satyadev Sharma, Deputy Director of Tiger Reserve said that the Forest Department had informed about the activities of a tigress for the last few days in Sambardhasan circle of Chhaparwa range of the reserve. On Monday, forest personnel told that the tigress is probably injured as she is sitting in one place. As soon as the information about the tigress was injured, the officials of the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve and the forest department of the capital Raipur started the action to save the tigress.

Sharma said that after receiving the information, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests from Raipur, PV Narasimha Rao reached the spot along with the rescue team. He was accompanied by Dr. Sandeep Aggarwal from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh and other officials of the Forest Department. The tigress was caught unconscious on Tuesday morning. The official said that the age of the tigress is about 12 years. He is being treated at Kanan Pendari Zoo in Bilaspur. He told that the tigress has an old wound on her back. It is suspected that he got this injury during a fight with another animal. More information is being gathered in this regard.
