SHO Padma Ram said that on Sunday afternoon Sukhi (60) and her granddaughter Manju (5) were going on foot to meet a family member in Roda village.
He said that he felt thirsty on the way, but could not find water nearby as the place was uninhabited.
Later some shepherds spotted the two from the top of a small hill and informed the village sarpanch, who informed the police, he said.
Police reached the spot and after first aid, both were taken to the hospital, where Manju was declared brought dead while Sukhi is undergoing treatment, he said.
Ram said, “We reached a place where vehicles cannot reach. We found that the girl had died while the elderly woman had fainted due to dehydration.
The body of the girl was handed over to her family members after post-mortem, he said.
