Fire breaks out in Vaishno Devi cave complex, no hindrance in travel

Jammu, Jun 8 (PTI) A fire broke out in the Vaishno Devi cave complex in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Tuesday, damaging a cash counter. However, this fire did not create any obstruction in the ‘yatra’ to the cave of the mother’s temple. An official gave this information.

Officials said that no casualty was reported in the fire accident. He told that the fire broke out in the structure next to the ‘Bhavan’ of the mother.

An official of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said, “The incident of fire broke out in the building around 4 pm. Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control by 4.25 pm.

He said that this incident of fire did not cause any hindrance in the journey and continued slowly.

Udhampur MP and Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he has spoken to the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi about this incident.

Singh tweeted, “Just spoke to the Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Charandeep Singh, and inquired about the fire in Vaishno Devi cave sometime back. Thankfully, everything is under control. No major damage has been reported. However, the situation is being closely monitored for the next few hours.

Earlier, officials had said that the fire which broke out due to short circuit was brought under control by 5 pm.

Video from the scene showed thick smoke billowing out of the building as fire tenders were trying to douse the flames.

Officials said that after being informed about the fire by CRPF personnel, the fire fighting squad of the temple immediately started efforts to douse the flames.

Officials said some cash and records were destroyed in the fire.
