On Tuesday afternoon, at a Kovid segregation center of 190th Battalion of CRPF located at ITI College of Simaria police station area, just 17 km from Chatra district headquarters of Jharkhand, a jawan from Rajasthan shot his own unit’s cook living in Haryana. Then shot himself.
Chatra Superintendent of Police Rishabh Jha told PTI that in this incident of firing at the said center, both the CRPF personnel died on the spot.
He said that the deceased jawans have been identified as Kallu Singh Gujjar (35) of Rajasthan and Ravindra Kumar (40) of Haryana. Ravindra Kumar was the cook of the force.
Preliminary reports suggest that Gujjar first shot Ravindra Kumar and then shot himself with his own rifle when he tried to stop him from committing suicide.
The officer said that the police has started investigating the cause of the incident. Earlier, on receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police Rishabh Jha and CRPF Commandant Pawan Kumar reached the spot and inspected the spot himself.
Officials said that Gujjar’s quarantine period ended today and he was to join his duty from tomorrow. In such a situation, why he took this step, it is being investigated.
