The condition of legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, who is battling Kovid-19 infection, is stable and better than yesterday, who is being treated at the PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) hospital here. The hospital gave this information on Saturday. Milkha is still on oxygen support whose health is being monitored by a team of three doctors. PGIMER Official Spokesperson Prof. Ashok Kumar said in the statement, “Flying Sikh Milkha Singh, who was sick due to Kovid-19, was admitted to the ICU of NHE Block of PGIMER from June 3. He said, “Based on his medical standards, his condition is better today, June 5, than yesterday.” The hospital said that he is better and stable as compared to Friday. Milkha’s family also issued a statement through a spokesperson, saying that the legendary player is “stable and in good condition, but still on oxygen”. ”
Referring to some false posts on social media since Saturday morning, the spokesperson said, “Ignore these rumours. This is wrong news. Milkha Singh was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after falling oxygen levels. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also rubbished the rumours and wished him a speedy recovery. Rijiju tweeted, “Please don’t spread false news and rumours about this great athlete and India’s pride Milkha Singh. His condition is stable and pray for his speedy recovery. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called to inquire about his health. Modi spoke to Milkha and expressed the hope that he would soon recover and bless the athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics. Milkha was discharged last Sunday after being treated for an infection at a private hospital in Mohali. But even at home he had oxygen. Milkha’s 82-year-old wife Nirmal is in the ICU of Fortis Hospital, who was confirmed to have Kovid-19 a few days after her husband got infected. In the update released by Fortis Hospital, Mohali, the family requests privacy in view of the rumors and negative posts. According to the statement, “Nirmal Milkha Singh’s condition is stable. Whenever there is a change in the status of their parents, they (the family) will update it. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh inquired about his condition from Milkha Singh’s son Jeev. Milkha’s son and famous golfer Jeev had come to Chandigarh from Dubai on May 22, while his elder sister Mona Milkha Singh, a doctor in the US, had also reached here a few days back. Milkha Singh’s servant was also found infected with the corona virus and it is feared that the couple became Kovid-19 positive after coming in contact with them. Four-time Asian Games gold medalist and Commonwealth Games champion Milkha Singh missed out on a bronze medal in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics by a narrow margin.
