CM Stalin writes to PM Modi over delay in setting up AIIMS in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Jun 5 (PTI) Raising the issue of delay in setting up the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Madurai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene.

Stalin said in a letter to Prime Minister Modi that the Center should take immediate steps. This also includes setting up a team of officers to supervise the work.

Stalin urged the prime minister to intervene personally, saying the state government was willing to extend all possible help to start the construction of the hospital immediately and complete the project at the earliest.

He said that on January 27, 2019, Modi had laid the foundation stone for the construction of AIIMS at Thoppur in Madurai. He said that the State Government has transferred the land to the Center for the construction of the prestigious institute.

“No progress has been made in the construction of the institute except for the construction of the campus wall,” he said.

He said that rapid construction of the institute is necessary to provide better health facilities to the people of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu as well as the neighboring states.
