BJP leader targets Shiv Sena over crop insurance issue

Aurangabad, Jun 1 (PTI) A senior BJP Kisan Morcha leader on Friday hit out at the Shiv Sena for not raising the issue of alleged irregularities in settlement of crop insurance claims of farmers in Maharashtra.

BJP Kisan Morcha general secretary Anil Bonde said that the Shiv Sena had protested against the insurance companies when Devendra Fadnavis was the chief minister, but the MVA government kept silence on the issue.

“In Aurangabad division, insurance companies have received premium from 34.81 lakh farmers, but so far only 1.32 lakh farmers have received the claim amount,” Bonde said at a press conference here. These companies earned Rs 1,433 crore from here, while in Latur division they earned Rs 1,817 crore. The Uddhav Thackeray government changed the insurance norms, due to which these companies made big money and farmers suffered.
