The National Assembly of Pakistan approved the International Court of Justice (Review and Re-Consideration) Ordinance 2020.
What is in this bill?
According to this bill, foreign prisoners convicted in Pakistani jails will be able to appeal in higher courts. If the Senate also passes the new bill, it will become law. After this, Jadhav will be able to challenge the decision of the Military Court in the Higher Civil Court.
what is the whole matter
Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested on 3 March 2016. On 24 March 2016, the Pakistani army called Jadhav a spy and arrested him from Balochistan. India declared Jadhav innocent and said that there was no evidence against him. India claimed that he is a retired Navy officer who has a cargo business in Iran. Pakistan arrested him from there and told his arrest to be from Balochistan. Pak military court sentenced Jadhav to death. India appealed to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, against the death sentence awarded to Jadhav. On 9 May 2017, the ICJ stayed Jadhav’s sentence. The ICJ ordered Pakistan to review the death sentence awarded to Jadhav and provide consular access to him.
