Till 15 days ago, the BJP, which was seen out of the race for the post of president in the district, has included SP supported Dalit woman Babli Devi in the party. There are total 20 members of Zilla Panchayat in Baghpat. For the first time, the post of District Panchayat President has been reserved for Dalit women. Changed with the help of disgruntled SP leader
In the presence of BJP MP Dr Satyapal Singh, MLA KP Malik and BJP MLA from Baghpat Yogesh Dhama, SP supported Dalit women district panchayat member Babli Devi was inducted into BJP. Due to this, the district panchayat politics, which was still quiet till now, boiled down. It is being told that in this success, the old player of the district panchayat politics and the disgruntled SP leader at present also supported him. BJP leaders in the district have now started claiming victory. However, in the numbers game, the SP-RLD has 11 members, which is equal to the required majority figure, despite the SP-backed candidate switching to the BJP.
RLD-SP hopeful of victory
RLD and SP have not given up hope of victory. According to RLD Mandal General Secretary Omveer Dhaka, along with RLD, SP and BSP, four independent members joined the DM and informed about giving their support to the district panchayat candidate of RLD. Along with this, a letter of support has been handed over to the newly elected National President of RLD and former MP Jayant Chaudhary. There was disappointment in the RLD after the RLD candidate Sahendra Ramala, who won from the lone Chhaprauli assembly constituency in the state, joined the BJP, but supporters are excited about the strong presence of RLD in many districts including Baghpat in the three-tier panchayat elections.
