The Chief Minister said that this is a historic step towards environmental protection and the newly declared National Park would be another effort by the State to protect its rich flora and fauna. The notification for declaring Raimona as a national park was issued by the Environment and Forest Department on Saturday.

The other five national parks in Assam include Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa. Sarma said that this is a step towards fulfilling the United Nations vision of ecosystem restoration.
