The announcement comes at a time when there is a growing need for ECMO treatment, especially for severe COVID patients suffering from lung disease. In such cases, many times patients are being airlifted from Odisha to other places.
Medical Superintendent Sachchidananda Mohanty said in a statement that a purchase order has already been placed for the purchase of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machines.
“The first ECMO machine is expected to be installed by the end of this month, as confirmed by the supplier,” Mohanty said.
