Health Ministry spokesman Ghulam Dastagir Nazari said 46 people had been hospitalized so far. Kabul has been on high alert since the United States announced its withdrawal by September 11. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The school near which the blast took place is a joint school where both boys and girls study. The students study in three shifts. The girls learn in another shift. Education ministry spokeswoman Najiba Arian said more girls were among the dead.
